1. Summary
3D Starfield ScreenSaver is DirectX screensaver inspired by legendary Starfield screen saver that was included in all prior Windows operative systems before Vista.
3D Starfield ScreenSaver is an improvement done by displaying animated spaceship on the screen and by making stars to follow the spaceship movements. Three-dimensional star field environment is simulated with 2D techniques due to excellent graphics and animation.
Also, a set of new controls has been added making 3D Starfield ScreenSaver highly customizable. Customizable background music support added, too.
Now you can change 3D Starfield ScreenSaver looks and feel entirely. You might: adjust global speed animation; hide or unhide the spaceship; change shape and number of stars; colorize, resize, and animate both spaceship and stars.
A wide range of 3D Starfield ScreenSaver look-outs is possible.
3D Starfield might be a classic star field simulator (if you center and hide the spaceship).
However it is easy to change its looks and feel completely using some or all of new controls available.
You will get a new amazing 3D space screensaver if you, for example, set the stars shape to be large stylized star or large “metaball”, and enlarge and colorize (or hide) the spaceship.

2. Settings
3D Starfield ScreenSaver has background sound included. Within Settings window (Fig.2) you can enable or disable the sound.
Also, you can set custom folder with your favorite music. Three standard formats: *.wav, *.mid, *.mp3 are supported as the most often used. 3D Starfield ScreenSaver plays one after another: all *.wav files, firstly - all *.mid, after that - and finally: all *.mp3 files.
You can adjust the speed of this three-dimensional animated screensaver to satisfy your preferences.
Within basic Settings window you can also customize stars number, size and warp speed.
At any time you can restore default settings. There is a button in Settings window lower left corner that you might use to reset all 3D Starfield ScreenSaver settings to their default values.

Left-click on More Settings button opens new window with more advanced settings (Fig.3) .

Within Advanced Settings window you will find a number of new controls that allow you to fine adjust spaceship and stars look-out and behavior.
Here you can colorize and resize spaceship; set its animation speed; center spaceship on the screen or set it to move around the screen. Also, you can hide or unhide the spaceship.
Furthermore, within Advanced Settings window you might choose the shape of the stars and customize their color and animation. Three stars shapes available: classic star field, stylized star, and "metaball".

By default, 3D Starfield ScreenSaver colorizes the spaceship with color randomly chosen between 14 predefined color nuances (with chance 2 out of 3). White color (i.e. no blending) is used with chance 1 out of 3.
By default the stars are not animated and their blending color is white (no blending).
However, you have unlimited possibility to set spaceship and stars blending colors by using Windows Color palette (4.3x10exp9 of possible nuances). Color intensity can be in a wide range from strong to subtle nuances, as your prefer (Fig.4).
You are highly encouraged to experiment with settings available to meet your aesthetic preferences.
Low processor usage is one of the basic features expected. 3D Starfield ScreenSaver has reasonable CPU usage, so it should work well even with older Pentium processors. Note that you can greatly lower your CPU usage by decreasing the global animation speed within Settings window. (Then you will want to increase spaceship animation speed and stars warp speed).
No special requirements.
3D Starfield ScreenSaver requires a modern Pentium PC running Windows 2000, XP, Vista, or later.
After installation 3D Starfield ScreenSaver uses about 6.4MB disk space. The program requires at least 65000 colors (high color, 16-bit). It requires at least 800x600 screen resolution. A 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 8.1 or higher with at least 32MB of video memory is required as well as a DirectX 8 compatible sound card. Make sure you have the most recent drivers installed. DirectX 8.1 or higher is
required (not included). You can download the newest version of DirectX from the Microsoft® website at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ .
4. Installing and Uninstalling the Program
To install 3D Starfield ScreenSaver simply run Starfield3DScr_Setup.exe and follow the on-screen instructions. You can install the software anywhere you like but it is best to follow the default suggestion given. Once installation is completed, in the Start menu you will find a new program group from which you can read the documentation, register screensaver or uninstall it.
You can uninstall 3D Starfield ScreenSaver with left-click on the Uninstall 3D Starfield ScreenSaver shortcut that you can find in the Start menu.

3D Starfield ScreenSaver is distributed as shareware
Unregistered version is fully functional but it runs only 5 minutes per session, shows an info-text at the upper left corner, and displays nag message on exit.
